Why work with UdderlyLush?

Because beige jobs are everywhere, and frankly the world has enough of them. We’re a purpose-driven ice cream and frozen desserts business, but let’s clear something up before anyone reaches for the collection tin: we’re not a charity and we’re not a CIC. We’re a commercial business with an asset lock and a commitment to give 15% of our revenue to help end food poverty. That gives us the freedom to move quickly, try clever things and change course without waiting for a committee to form a subcommittee about the biscuits. It also means we watch costs like hawks with calculators, because if the maths doesn’t work, neither does the 15%.

Whether you’re mixing ideas, delighting customers or stopping the wheels from falling off the ice cream cart, the standard is the same: make it good, make it human and leave things better than you found them. Ideally without needing a twelve-slide deck to explain why.

People, planet and purpose come before profit—but that doesn’t mean profit is optional. On the planet side, we keep it practical: our ice cream carts are net zero, powered by portable power stations and solar, so we can serve almost anywhere without leaving a trail of fumes behind us. Single-use plastic is a hard no. Our Notpla packaging dissolves in water, and both our ice cream cups and spoons are edible—because who doesn’t fancy munching the spoon afterwards? Our aim is simple: add nothing to landfill and do nothing that harms Mother Nature. In return, she gives us the lovely grass that helps make our lush ice cream. We tackle food waste just as seriously, using ingredient-optimisation software we developed ourselves to make sure as little as possible goes unused. That’s also why we make everything ourselves: tighter control, less waste and no passing the responsibility—or the empty tub—to someone else.

Do we have the future neatly packaged, labelled and lined up in a freezer? Of course not. Nobody does. We do have a clear direction, an appetite to learn and the freedom to make smart decisions on the fly. That freedom is not an excuse to fling money around. We back good people with useful technology, challenge every cost and change course quickly when the numbers say we should. Purpose without commercial discipline is just a lovely idea that runs out of cash.

What’s it actually like here?

We started small, fuelled by big ideas, a terrifying amount of strong coffee and a healthy willingness to learn the hard way. We’ve grown, picked up a few battle scars and become dangerously good at spotting what works—and ruthlessly binning what doesn’t. The ambition hasn’t shrunk; it’s just put its big-kid boots on. We are here to build a brilliant, profitable business that helps end the indignity of people having to ask for food.

Life here moves faster than a dropped scoop on a hot pavement. It’s informal, creative and properly hands-on. We like straight talk, low egos and people who actually fix problems instead of writing tragic sonnets about why they can’t. Progress isn’t measured in shiny shoes, corporate theatre or hours spent perfecting your "busy face" for the boss. It comes from hard graft, turning customers into devoted groupies, helping other people do brilliant work and protecting the margin that makes our 15% commitment possible. Because let's face it, every sensible saving means more cash doing exactly what we promised it would do.

We want people who think differently, challenge the status quo and are perfectly happy to change their minds when a better idea ambushes them. Constant agreement is comfortable, much like a battered old pair of slippers, but it rarely creates anything interesting. Bring your point of view, share it in good faith and give everyone else room to do the same. The goal isn’t to win the argument or be the loudest cow in the field. It’s to make UdderlyLush brilliant, society fairer, and food poverty a thing of the past.  We pay £16 to £20 per hour and everyone is given the chance to own the market stall they work at apply to moo@udderlylush.com
